Sheila Bair frustrated by Yellen campaign

Being a woman irrelevant when picking a Fed chief

Fed Chair nominee Janet Yellen is a woman. This is not news, and yet it has floated to the surface as a reason for her being elected. But Yellen is fully capable of standing on her own, former FDIC chair Sheila Bair argued. And it seems Bair, as always, is frank about what's relevant and what's not. Being a woman is far down on her list when discussing who's qualified to lead the Fed going forward. Here's more from her interview with Politico:

“Janet Yellen can stand on her own. The fact that she’s a woman should be completely irrelevant to this,” Bair said. “Some people were saying, ‘Oh, if she gets this it’s just because [she’s a woman].’ That’s nonsense.”
