The State of Appraisals in 2022

Desktop appraisals, which remove the requirement to conduct a physical property inspection and instead utilize property tax records and past sales, are scheduled to become a permanent option for some agency-backed loans starting in March 2022—two years after their initial introduction by the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA).
