TD Charitable Foundation, the giving arm of TD Bank and TD Banknorth will offer $2m in grants to support affordable housing along the east coast through its 2009 “Housing for Everyone” competition. From Maine to Florida, the operating area of the banks, non-profit programs can submit their creative solutions for a rocky housing market in the hopes of landing one of the 56 grants, ranging from $10,000 to $100,000. This is the third giveaway for the “Housing for Everyone” competition, which was started in 2006. Since then, the competition has given away $5m and built more than 3,000 homes. TD Charitable sprung to life in 2002 and has since given $49m to struggling communities. “Now more than ever, there’s a need to help families stay in their homes, and protect our neighborhoods from the effects of foreclosure and abandonment,” Elizabeth K. Warn, president of the TD Charitable Foundation said in a release. Qualified candidates must have a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status, develop or maintain affordable housing or provide housing-related programs to low-income individuals and serve the area of TD Bank and TD Banknorth. Applicants have until Sept. 4, 2009 to submit their plans. Awards will be announced in October. Write to Jon Prior.
