This note on the deal is meant to share my point of view on the strategy. More details on the deal are available in the press release, but this note shares my perspective on the “why” behind the acquisition and the investments we’ll make in the coming years.
The importance of this acquisition
The housing market is undergoing a transformation, with new home construction playing a pivotal role. New home construction as a percentage of total home sales fluctuates based on mortgage rates, building cycles and builder confidence — and the amount of existing home inventory available in the market. As we analyze aging housing stock, demographic trends and pent-up demand, we see new home construction as a pivotal component of total home sales in the coming decades. As the stock of housing ages and maintenance costs rise, new homes will be crucial in shaping the future of our communities and the housing market.
