Compass is opening a tech hub in India

Jaideep Ganguly will leave Amazon to head the new office

Real estate brokerage Compass is opening a tech hub in Hyderabad, India.

New York-based Compass said engineers in Hyderabad will focus on mobile application development, as well as cloud and data projects. Compass will add as many as 200 employees there, including product and design professionals.

The new offices will be located in Hyderabad’s HITEC City, where companies like Google, Amazon, Facebook and Microsoft have hubs.

The setting “places Compass at the epicenter of Indian engineering culture,” Compass said in a statement.

Jaideep Ganguly, a director of software development at Amazon, will be joining Compass to lead the HITEC City operation as vice president of engineering starting later this year, the company said.

“The chance to transform an industry is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Ganguly said in a statement. “What makes this an interesting challenge for developers is the direct impact on a very specific vertical – real estate.”

Prior to Amazon, Ganguly was a director of engineering at Microsoft. He has a doctorate in science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned his undergraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.

The Hyderabad location is the company’s fourth tech hub. In September, the company announced the opening of a hub in Seattle, and the others are located in New York City and Washington D.C.

“In the past year alone we have more than tripled our tech team here in the United States,” said Compass CTO Joseph Sirosh. “This injection of talent is enabling us to launch new features, including AI-powered recommendations, and rapidly improve CRM, search, the Compass mobile app and more.”
