Save the date! HUD Secretary Carson to host homeownership forum

Live webcast available

It’s almost National Homeownership Month!

To help bring awareness to the importance of the month, the Department of Housing and Urban Development is preparing to start the month of June off with a homeownership forum at its headquarters in D.C.

The month is dedicated as a time to reflect on the impact that owning a home has on household wealth, neighborhood stability and the nation’s broader economic health.

For 2017, HUD announced the theme of this year’s homeownership month is Finding Your Place in a New Era of Homeownership.

The forum will take place on June 1 at 2 p.m. EDT and will be moderated by CNBC Real Estate Reporter Diana Olick, along with group of expert panelists.

The panelists include:

  • Joel Kan, associate vice president of industry surveys and forecasts with the Mortgage Bankers Association
  • Christie Peale, executive director with the Center for NYC Neighborhoods
  • Jon Spader, senior research associate with the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies
  • Lawrence Yun, chief economist and senior vice president of research National Association of Realtors

Kevin Kane, chief housing market analyst with HUD’s Economic Market Analysis Division, will also give an update on the current housing market condition.

HUD said it “will examine how the nation’s housing crisis is affecting consumer attitudes, especially for the growing population of millennials attempting to enter the market.”

People can register for the event here, which will also be available via webcast.

Since his time in office, HUD Secretary Ben Carson has spent a lot of his time reaching out to the public to get their feedback. After being confirmed as secretary of the HUD, Carson announced he would go on a listening tour across the nation, which included visiting Dallas and Columbus
