Former Fannie Mae manager trades basis points for beer

Opens beer growler shop in Dallas suburb

A former manager at Fannie Mae is trading in the world of mortgages, REO sales, and field services for a life of lagers, ales, and stouts.

Bradley Trapnell, who was REO Sales Manager at Fannie Mae from 2005-2009 and served in other roles in the mortgage finance world for the last five years, is leaving all that behind to open up his own beer growler shop in the Dallas suburb of Highland Village.

Former HousingWire star reporter Tiney Ricciardi, now writing for the Dallas Morning News, profiles Trapnell and his new venture, What’s On Tap, which is set to open in late December.

From Ricciardi’s article:

A veteran in real estate finance, Trapnell originally wanted to open a microbrewery after becoming an avid homebrewer. After leaving a position at Fannie Mae, however, he had success scheduling networking happy hours and was inspired to bring something like Dallas beer bar Craft & Growler to Highland Village, his home of 10 years.

Instead of opening up a microbrewery, Trapnell will open up Highland Village’s first growler shop. A growler, by the way, is a glass or metal container designed to transport beer from the tap to a person’s house while maintain the beer’s freshness.

Trapnell, who was also senior vice president of business development at Homestar Property Solutions from 2010 until June of this year, said his new venture will feature a family-friendly environment.

“I really believe that great beer brings people together,” Trapnell told Riccairdi.
