Mortgage Rates Drop to Three-Month Low in Freddie Mac Survey

Mortgage rates slipped to their lowest level in three months, according to reports by Freddie Mac [stock FRE][/stock] and Bankrate.com. The average interest rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (FRM) was 5.12% with an average 0.7 point during the week ending August 20, according to Freddie’s weekly survey. That’s down from 5.29% the week prior. A year ago, Freddie Mac’s survey rate was 6.47%. This week’s rate is a three-month low for Freddie’s survey.
