Reuters is reporting on Inside Mortgage Finance’s list of top subprime mortgage originators. Here’s the top five: 1. HSBC / $52.8B 2. New Century / $51.6 3. Countrywide / $40.6 4. Citi / $38.8B 5. Ameriquest / $29.5 Any bets the top 5 this year will look drastically different? Ameriquest and New Century are already gone, and I know that HSBC has been dramatically scaling back its operations. Personally, I think Countrywide and Citi battle it out for the crown in 2007, IMHO, and it won’t take another $50B+ to win it all this year.
