Keller Williams-owned app Smarter Agent to shut down

The reason was not disclosed

Keller Williams-owned Smarter Agent, a Philadelphia-based startup that allows agents to create their own branded apps, will be shutting down its dedicated app.

Inman News first reported that Smarter Agent would be shutting down. Keller Williams declined to provide HousingWire a timeline for the closure or explain why Smarter Agent was shutting down.

The app firm, which was acquired by the real estate brokerage franchisor in 2018, “will continue to service existing client agreements throughout their expiration,” Keller Williams spokesperson Darryl Frost told HousingWire. “Smarter Agent users have been notified of the planned service changes.”

The app, which connects to more than 650 multiple listings services, claims to be the most widely used mobile software-as-a-service (Saas) platform in the real estate space. The company claimed on its website that it had more than 3,000 brokerages and 300,000 agents using its app.

The secret to maximizing profitability in a high volume market

Hiring more LOs, LOAs or processors is difficult, time-consuming and costly. At the same time, working longer hours month after month is not sustainable. To scale to make the most of high demand, teams must find ways to work more efficiently together. Here’s how they can.

With the acquisition, Keller Williams planned to build an end-to-end platform for consumer search. In February, the franchisor’s new neighborhood-based home search app – known as KW App – launched with data feeds from Smarter Agent, part of a larger technology overhaul.

The app firm was founded by brothers Brad and Eric Blumberg over a decade ago.

Comments

  1. Apps are tough. I know I don’t like being in an app silo if I can avoid it. As a KW agent, I was impressed with the marketing collateral produced to support the agent-branded app, but I felt like there a definite lack of “thinking like a consumer” in the product rollout.

Lower mortgage rates attracting more homebuyers

However, the point of this tracker is to show you evidence that lower rates have already changed housing data. So, let’s […]
