Fannie Mae CFO promoted internally

David Benson, former Fannie Mae executive vice president of Capital Markets, Securitization and Corporate Strategy, has succeeded departing Chief Financial Officer Susan McFarland, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

McFarland resigned as executive vice president and chief financial officer on Thursday, but will remain employed by the compas as a senior adviser until June 30, 2013.

Previously Benson served as Fannie Mae’s executive vice president of Capital Markets from April 2009 to Sept. 2012.

Prior to joining Fannie Mae in 2002, Benson was managing director in the Fixed Income Division of Merrill Lynch & Co. He served in several capacities at the company in areas such as risk management, trading and debt syndication.

McFarland was named CFO in 2011 when she replaced David Johnson who had been head of the government-sponsored enterprise since soon after Fannie was put into conservatorship.
