For investors and servicers looking to manage collateral risk, nothing is more important in the current market than forward analytics that can help develop a sense of future loan performance; Garden Grove, Calif.-based Informative Research said Thursday that it had rolled out a suite of portfolio credit review analytic tools for mortgage investors and servicers designed to provide a forward-looking view. “Investors must be focused on individual loans in their portfolio,” said Tony D’Eccliss, who leads sales at Informative Research. “Gone are the days when portfolio risk was measured in broad brushstrokes. Proactive management now requires asking — ‘has anything in my borrower’s credit profile changed and how might that impact loan performance going forward?'” “Credit Review tools target these issues, loan by loan,” D’Eccliss added. “We even offer a model that predicts current income.” We’ve heard from numerous investors about the loan-level due diligence that is now the standard for most deals getting done; especially for whole loan trades in sub- and non-performing mortgages. Informative Research has been around a very long time, and has traditionally provided credit reporting services, credit rescoring programs, and flood determination products for mortgage lenders; the push into an increasingly crowded due diligence space is a new one, and underscores how large the market has become. Many credit bureaus and credit data providers have begun pushing into loss mitigation and due diligence for distressed mortgage portfolios as of late, including the three giant bureaus Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. All three offer similar credit analytic products, either as a stand-alone or as part of a partnership. In February, for example, Experian and Clayton Holdings, Inc. announced a partnership that involves leveraging Experian’s data assets and predictive analytics, traditionally relied upon in the primary markets, to assess and mitigate risk in the secondary market; Clayton provides the loan-level surveillance and special servicing assets as needed by servicers or investors.
