Better.com names Devang Thakkar chief product officer

Thakkar previously worked for Artsy, Microsoft

Last month, HousingWire reported that Better.com was in “full growth mode.” At the time, the digital mortgage companies just announced its expansion in Charlotte and its plans to hire 1,000 employees in its new North Carolina office over the next five years.

The company’s growth continues, as it announced the hire of  Devang Thakkar as chief product officer this week. Working out of Better.com’s New York headquarters, Thakkar will lead the product and design teams.

In addition to the hire, Better.com reports tripling its year-over-year and funding over $600 million in mortgages a month. In August, Better.com announced it closed on $160 million of Series C funding, with backers including Ally Financial, Citi, and American Express.

“We are thrilled that Devang Thakkar has joined us as our chief product officer. He brings deep experience, having worked on consumer-facing products in both large companies and small,” said Vishal Garg, CEO and founder of Better.com. “He also brings a well-rounded perspective to his body of work and will devote his energy to managing our growing product and design team and owning our product roadmap and vision. We couldn’t be more pleased to have him at Better.”

Thakkar brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Before joining Better.com, he was vice president of consumer marketplace at Artsy, an international platform for collecting and discovering art. While there, he ran the company’s auction business and two-sided marketplace.  Prior to his time at Artsy, Thakkar spent 11 years at Microsoft, where he worked on the development of major operating systems from Windows XP to Windows 10 and product lines such as Bing apps, MSN, and Microsoft Teams.
