AAG President appointed to NRMLA Board

New president assumed full-time duties with industry-leading lender in January

The National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association (NRMLA), the reverse mortgage industry’s predominant trade group, announced this week the appointment of American Advisors Group (AAG) President and COO Ed Robinson to its Board of Directors.

The Board unanimously voted to approve Robinson’s appointment, according to an email alert sent to association membership late Thursday.

Robinson was first named to the president and COO positions at AAG on an acting basis in August 2021, which was said to allow for AAG Founder and CEO Reza Jahangiri to focus on other specific aspects of running the company and working toward unspecified initiatives for the future of AAG.

Robinson assumed the positions on a permanent basis in January, 2022, and will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations at AAG while also overseeing company income statements and optimizing the customer experience. Prior to joining AAG, he most recently served in the COO role for Genesis Financial Solutions, a provider of non-prime consumer financing that is based in Beaverton, Ore. Prior to his career in the mortgage business, Robinson served for 17 years in the United States Army.

In an interview with RMD shortly after assuming his roles on a permanent basis, Robinson said that a key priority for AAG in 2022 will focus on “delighting the consumer,” he said.

“I believe we all have had experiences with banks and financial services companies that have frankly left something to be desired,” he told RMD in January. “So, when it comes to dealing with seniors and their adult children about a complex financial product, and you mix in a home which, in America especially, is a cherished asset, you’re dealing with a very complicated and very emotional transaction. So, expertise matters, but I believe that empathy and delightful service and experiences matter just as much.”

Recently, AAG announced the hiring of Scott Slifer to serve as the company’s new chief administrative officer, a move that will place him in charge of the lender’s national field sales, wholesale and business development divisions. The company also expanded its partnership arrangements with companies in the home renovation and modification spaces to support aging-in-place initiatives.

An often misguided premise I see on social media is that lower mortgage rates are doing nothing for housing demand. That’s ok — very few people are looking at the data without an agenda. However, the point of this tracker is to show you evidence that lower rates have already changed housing data. So, let’s […]
