One of HousingWire’s Women of Influence promoted to COO

Claudia Merkle makes her way through the ranks at National MI

National Mortgage Insurance Corporation announced Claudia Merkle as its new chief operating officer.

Merkle will continue to report to company CEO Bradley Shuster in her new position. She will be responsible for leading underwriting, operations, servicing, sales, marketing and business development.

She was also named one of HousingWire’s Women of Influence back in August.

Merkle is the mastermind behind National MI’s new insurance coverage that shortened the traditional industry time frame for rescission relief from 36 to 12 months.

“Claudia’s promotion to COO is well-deserved,” Shuster said. “She has demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities and has been a key contributor to National MI’s success.”

Merkle brings 25 years of industry experience with her to the new position. She has been with National MI since it began in 2012, where she joined as senior vice president or insurance operations.

“I’m very pleased to be named COO,” Merkle said. “I’m extremely proud of National MI’s achievements and the momentum we’ve generated in four years. I look forward to accomplishing even more in my new role.”
