Brooklyn man accused of posing as real estate agent, swindling prospective client

Rented out an apartment he didn’t own

A Brooklyn man is currently in police custody after being arrested for posing as a real agent and swindling a prospective client out of thousands of dollars.

According to a report from CBS New York, Nassau Country police arrested 33-year-old James Cadet for allegedly renting out an apartment he didn’t own and stealing more than $2,000 in the process.

From CBS New York:

Nassau County police said the 28-year-old victim met with James Cadet, 33, after responding to a Craigslist ad for a cottage to rent back in April of 2015.

Investigators said she gave Cadet three money orders that amounted to more than $2,000 in exchange for renting the space. However, when the victim tried to move into the home in May, she was unable to gain access.

According to the report, the victim then contacted the apartment’s listing agent, who said that Cadet didn’t work for them.

Cadet stands charged with criminal impersonation and grand larceny.
