Penthouse owned by “Psychic Hotline King” is NYC’s 2nd most expensive rental

The man who brought us Miss Cleo commands $100K a month in rent

You may not be familiar with Steve Feder, but you’re almost certainly familiar with his business – or the face of his business, at least.

Feder is the former head of the Psychic Readers Network. He’s been called the “Psychic Hotline King” and he’s the man that brought “Miss Cleo” into everyone’s TV throughout the 1990’s with their omnipresent infomercials.

Feder did quite well with this phone psychic business, despite being forced to forgive $500 million in fees from callers who thought the calls to Miss Cleo were free.

Feder parlayed his psychic-derived riches into a massive penthouse atop the Time Warner Center in New York, and now Feder is renting that penthouse out for the second-highest rent in all of New York City.

Yahoo Homes has the report (citing the New York Post) on Feder’s apartment, which he’s actually been trying to sell since 2010 – once listing it at $60 million.

From Yahoo Homes:

The so-called Psychic Hotline King — the mogul behind 1990s infomercial star Miss Cleo — is now the proud landlord of New York City’s second most expensive rental, a $100,000-a-month Time Warner Center penthouse, the New York Post reports. (Only Robert De Niro’s 15 Central Park West pad costs more. The actor pays $125,000 a month.)

The apartment is on the 75th floor, with what the listing described as “jet liner views of the entire city, including the George Washington Bridge, panoramic views of Central Park, the East River, the Chrysler Building, Empire State Building, Wall Street, the Statue of Liberty and due west over the Hudson River.” It has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms — including a 30-foot-long master suite with his-and-hers bathrooms — and two kitchens in its 4,340 square feet.

And it looks like Feder will be pulling that cool $100,000 a month for a couple more years, as the renter, a “Bermuda-based Canadian investor,” signed a two-year lease.

Lower mortgage rates attracting more homebuyers

An often misguided premise I see on social media is that lower mortgage rates are doing nothing for housing demand. That’s ok — very few people are looking at the data without an agenda. However, the point of this tracker is to show you evidence that lower rates have already changed housing data. So, let’s […]
