Mortgage bond thought leader Vicki Beal passes away

Honored as HousingWire Woman of Influence in 2013

Vicki Beal, who was honored as one of HousingWire’s Influential Women in Housing Finance in 2013 and appeared on the cover of the November 2013 issue of HousingWire Magazine, passed away last week at the age of 62.

Beal was senior vice president in transaction management at Clayton Holdings, and led the company’s transaction management team.

In this role, she helped facilitate independent third-party review due diligence services for non-agency residential mortgage-backed securities deals. She is best remembered as a thought leader in the private-label mortgage securitization market.

Beal joined Clayton in 1993 and served as Clayton’s primary ratings agency contact and had provided input on securitization standards adopted by the American Securitization Forum.

As part of her role at Clayton, she served as the “face and voice” of the company, appearing before the Senate Banking Committee in Washington, D.C. and other regulatory committees as a designated representative of the company.

Beal, who had more than 38 years of mortgage banking industry experience, acted as the go-to person at Clayton on the subject matter of due diligence, and was considered an expert on all elements of the origination, collection, servicing, regulatory and vendor sides of the mortgage business.

While at Clayton, Beal also served as the manager of the deal and operations system support department. In that role, she managed the maintenance and updates of Clayton’s due diligence platform. She previously served as the manager of the client service management team for due diligence projects.

Prior to that, she was a client service manager, responsible for working with several of Clayton’s largest due diligence clients. Beal was also a project lead for many years, working on field due diligence assignments. Prior to joining Clayton, Beal contracted with Coopers & Lybrand/Resolution Trust Corporation Gulf Coast Regional Office in Houston, Texas.

Beal was also a vice president at First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Beaumont, Texas.  During her 18 years at First Federal, she was manager of the residential and commercial loan servicing and REO departments.

Beal is survived by Herbert Beal, her husband of nearly 43 years; their two sons, Hebert (Trey) Beal, III and his wife Kristin of Tampa, Florida, and John Beal and wife Christy of Baytown, Texas; her mother, Daisy Geiger; her mother-in-law, Anita Beal of Beaumont, Texas; five grandchildren, Breanne Beal, David Beal, Kyle Beal, Jordan Beal, Blake Beal and a host of nieces and nephews, Beal’s family said in an obituary.

“We would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Oglesby, staff and nurses of Beauregard Memorial Hospital and all those who called and sent flowers and to First United Methodist Church for all their prayers and thoughts during this time of sorrow,” Beal’s family said.

Beal’s family said that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to: The OYOU Community Arts Center Own Your Own Universe at P. O. Box 2340 San Marcos, TX 78667, or the First United Methodist Church of DeRidder, Louisiana.

Lower mortgage rates attracting more homebuyers

An often misguided premise I see on social media is that lower mortgage rates are doing nothing for housing demand. That’s ok — very few people are looking at the data without an agenda. However, the point of this tracker is to show you evidence that lower rates have already changed housing data. So, let’s […]
