PNC fixing glitch that double-charged mortgage customers

Bank gets everything back to normal

PNC Bank (PNC) confirmed a computer glitch caused an payment processing error for some of its loan customers.

However, spokeswoman Marcey Zwiebel said the minor and temporary problem will be "corrected by this evening."

The glitch lead to some mortgage customers being charged twice for their mortgages, however, the incident is not limited to this one issue.

Some clients received duplicate deposits, others reported an error in their account balance.

Zwiebel said an "overnight processing delay in certain parts of the country" led to the above issues.

Zwiebel could not say to what extent PNC customers were impacted.

The credit and debit card issuer, like others in the nation, are already facing the fallout from the recent data breach from big box retailer Target. While PNC is not putting out a press release on today's error, it did reiterate its dedication to its customers in the wake of the Target breach.

"PNC cares about our customers' well being and is committed to protecting the security of our customers’ personal and financial information," said the bank in a statement. "As part of this commitment, we continuously monitor our customer accounts for fraudulent activity and customers are not held liable for unauthorized charges."
