Foreclosures fall 29% in southeastern Wisconsin

Parts of Wisconsin managed to escape the foreclosure flood, with foreclosure filings in Southeastern Wisconsin dropping 29% from last year in September, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

The paper studied 509 filings from seven different counties:

Through the first nine months of 2013, mortgage foreclosure filings were down 35.7% in the seven-county area, to 5,336 from 8,299 during the same period in 2012, court records show.

While the city of Milwaukee continues to struggle with foreclosed properties that are a blight on neighborhoods, new foreclosures are dropping in Milwaukee County. Milwaukee County recorded 273 mortgage foreclosure filings in September, compared with 383 in September last year.
