Housing News Podcast: Roofstock’s Gary Beasley gives us the skinny on America’s single-family rental market
The Housing News Podcast is a weekly wrap of the top news stories by HousingWire CEO Clayton Collins.
Each week, HousingWire interviews financial services experts who can help make sense of the latest headlines, sponsored by our partners at Arch MI.
This week, Gary Beasley, the CEO, and co-founder of Roofstock, explains the origin story of his online real estate investment company, as well as the company’s evolution throughout the years. Additionally, Beasley discusses America’s single-family rental market, which he says continues to attract more and more institutional capital.
Here’s more detail on the topics of discussion this week:
During March, rental growth increased to 3.7% from last year, a 12-month high, according to the Consumer Price Index. According to a report from Capital Economics, analysts were optimistic about the rental market’s outlook but surprised at the boost in growth. So, what’s behind this acceleration and will it continue? CE said it suspects the recent rise in earnings growth may be the cause.
There’s a new way to invest in single-family rental: buying just a piece of the property. Earlier this year, Roofstock, a platform for buying and selling single-family rental homes, rolled out a program that allows investors to buy a share in a single-family rental home and collect a return on that investment, without having to act as a landlord.
