A former sergeant in the U.S. Army, David Smith draws on both his personal knowledge of veterans’ needs and his deep expertise on the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs’ loan program to drive loanDepot’s national VA lending strategy. Taking an educational approach to the role, Smith leads loanDepot’s extensive outreach to both the military community and industry professionals (both originators and Realtors) to help them better understand and utilize VA mortgage products. Over the last several years, he has trained more than 28,000 real estate agents and consumers on the nuances and benefits of the VA’s powerful home loan program. Smith also oversees loanDepot’s industry-leading VA Council, a dedicated group of loanDepot originators, many of whom are veterans themselves, and who specialize in serving fellow veteran and active-duty military personnel from a position of personal knowledge and trust. Bringing more than 20 years of experience to the company, Smith Joined loanDepot in 2022 as a branch production manager specializing in VA loans while serving on an all-veteran team. Prior to loanDepot, Smith held mortgage, real estate, sales and VA training roles with companies such as Prudential Real Estate, USAA, Wells Fargo and Mutual of Omaha.
