UK mortgage lending forecasts face downside risks

British net mortgage lending risks coming in below the forecast £15bn (US$22bn) this year due to subdued lending and approvals for home purchase loans so far in 2010, the Council of Mortgage Lenders said. “Now that we have seen mortgage approvals data for the first four months of this year, it is becoming clearer that the risks associated with our lending forecast for 2010 are on the downside,” said CML Director General Michael Coogan.
