2018 Women of Influence: Fran Mordi

Associate Vice President for Residential Policy at Mortgage Bankers Association

Fran Mordi

Fran Mordi, associate vice president for residential policy at the Mortgage Bankers Association, is a 20-year industry vet and an established, no-nonsense tax law professional in the financial industry.

Mordi was the mortgage industry’s lead tax policy expert during a once-in-a-generation tax reform after the financial meltdown in 2007. She spearheaded a large effort across the industry to review the large, fast-changing legislation to ensure real estate finance came out ahead. Without her leadership, the industry would be in a decidedly worse place.

Mordi was instrumental in the enactment of the Troubled Asset Relief Program legislation and has led the industry’s efforts to win on big tax issues that impact lenders.

In addition to shaping the legal landscape surrounding the world of finance, Mordi is on the frontlines, educating and training MBA’s staffers as well as its member institutions.

A champion for women in the industry, Mordi leads a team of MBA employees that amplifies the voices of junior staff, especially women. In addition, Mordi mentors many of the junior employees at MBA. She promotes and participates in programs and events that advance the cause of women in the financing industry, acting as a liaison addressing diversity concerns surrounding gender and race.
