National vacancy rates in the third quarter 2013 hit 8.3% for rental housing and 1.9% for homeowner housing, the Department of Commerce’s Census Bureau announced.

The rental vacancy rate was 0.3 below the rate in the third quarter 2012 and 0.1 percentage point higher than the rate last quarter.

Meanwhile, the homeowner vacancy rate was virtually unchanged from the third quarter 2012 rate and the rate last quarter.
